Steal our style: The nursery
How do you achieve the perfect nursery?
Our nursery has been one of the most popular rooms. We asked our Interior Designer about the inspiration for this beautiful space and how you can recreate this look.
Where did you look for the inspiration for this room?
I didn’t have to look very far! Being on the edge of the peak district, the village of Meltham has an abundance of urban green space. Nurseries need to be calm and so I wanted to bring the serenity of the outdoors in. There is also a lot of focus on the protected environment on this site, and children love animals, so the animal theme was an obvious direction to take.
How did you turn the inspiration into a reality?
I started with the colour scheme, utilising soft, earthy, neutral colours to project calm. I then built on this by adding accessories such as the tree branch. This was from an old dead tree on site and so it was lovely to be able to literally bring the outside in. By placing the nursing chair underneath the tree and fairy lights a baby could fall asleep under the stars. Wherever possible we’ve incorporated natural materials across the room, such as shelving, the table and accent furniture added to the natural style of the room.
What other factors are important to consider in a nursery?
Lighting is important in all rooms and a nursery is no different. By incorporating different categories of lighting such as fairy lights, side lights and main lights you can change the environment depending on the time of day – sleep time or play time.
What’s your favourite thing about this room?
Children need spaces to relax, have some time from the stimulation of life and a space for imagination and create. The den ticks these boxes. Layered with textured throws and cushions makes it an inviting space to read a book and relax.
Any other points to consider?
Yes, there are a couple which could apply to all rooms. Bedding, whilst a focal point, should remain minimal and create a focus on the soft furnishings by layering up with different textures such as throws and cushions. And as always, a textured rug is ideal for finishing off a room.
This beautiful room is at our Moorland View, Meltham showhome and can be viewed every Sunday from 10am – 3.30pm. To arrange a viewing contact us.
